It's a Shoe talk - Calligraffiti

Yesterday Alpha Studio attended the exciting lecture in Auckland NZ, by Niels Shoe Meulman (also known as Shoe) to learn about Calligraffiti and the inspirations behind his works.

Niels Shoe Meulman (also known as Shoe) is an internationally known artist and graphic designer. He is born, raised and based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

What is Calligraffiti? The simple answer:

Calligraffiti is a combination of calligraphy and graffiti. Calligraphy is about the art of writing and can have many forms. Whether it be Japanese ancient brush characters, Arabic pictorial scripts, illuminated mediaeval books or swirly quill writing… all calligraphy.

Graffiti is the art of getting your (pseudo) name up in an urban environment. Perfected in New York City and now a worldwide phenomenon.

In true Shoe style, it was very informal, inspirational and full of the odd laugh here and there.

It just goes to show that even as a teenagers he had a passion for "graffiti" and it has continued throughout his work.

Top 5 Tips for Designing a Newsletter

A well designed newsletter/email template can be the difference between success or failure.

1. Make it visually interesting, use pictures. Pictures will always grab your clients attention.

2. Keep it Simple
Have a few main pointers and get straight to the point.

3. Choose only a few colours
Don't use to many colours when designing the newsletter as this will be to overwhelming. "More is less".

4. Only Bold Headers not everything
Don't make everything bold, as this will make the newsletter to busy and hard to read.

5. Section out your content
Don't have a continuous section for your content, split up your content into sections it will make it easier to follow.
